Buying gold coins in the UK
Gold coins carry a slightly higher premium than bars of the same weight because of minting costs, but UK legal tender coins such as the Britannia and Sovereign are exempt from capital gains tax, which for many investors outweighs the difference. Sovereigns are the most liquid gold coin in the UK and the easiest to sell in small quantities. All investment gold is VAT free.
